The Women’s Cell at Acharya Institute of Graduate Studies is a vital platform dedicated to promoting gender equality, safety, and empowerment within the institution and the community. It strives to create an environment where female students, faculty, and staff feel respected, supported, and motivated to achieve their full potential. The Cell also extends its efforts beyond the campus by collaborating with nearby villages to raise awareness and educate women on issues related to health, education, legal rights, and self-reliance.
Within the college, the committee actively works to prevent harassment or discrimination and provides a safe space for grievance redressal with fairness and confidentiality. It hosts workshops, seminars, and awareness programs on women’s health, self-defence, leadership, legal literacy, and career opportunities. By partnering with local communities, the Women’s Cell empowers rural women through capacity-building initiatives, awareness campaigns, and sensitization efforts, thus bridging the gap between academic knowledge and social responsibility.
By involving teaching staff, non-teaching staff, and students in its activities, the committee ensures inclusive representation and collective action. Ultimately, the Women’s Cell aims to foster a safe, supportive, and empowering educational environment while also contributing to the progress of women in society.
The Women’s Cell will organize interactive awareness sessions for adolescent girls in nearby villages and schools to promote understanding of menstrual hygiene and reproductive health. Many young girls still face stigma, myths, and a lack of proper guidance in these areas, leading to health problems and emotional distress. Through workshops, demonstrations, and discussions led by medical professionals and trained staff, the program will teach girls about menstrual hygiene management, nutrition, self-care, and the importance of breaking taboos. Sex education will be provided in an age-appropriate and culturally sensitive way to give girls accurate information about their bodies, safety, and rights. This initiative aims to improve health, confidence, and dignity among adolescent girls, while also raising awareness among families and communities.
For the internal college community, the Women’s Cell can organize a Gender Sensitization and Work-Life Balance Workshop. This activity will help faculty and students reflect on gender stereotypes, workplace challenges, and strategies for fostering inclusivity on campus. Sessions may include expert talks, group discussions, role-plays, and case studies on issues such as equal opportunities, mental health, leadership roles for women, and preventing gender-based discrimination. The workshop will not only sensitize participants but also encourage them to act as advocates for gender equality in their professional and personal spaces.
