    National Cadet Corps

    The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is a youth development movement. It has enormous potential for nation building. The NCC provides opportunities to the youth of the country for their all-round development with a sense of Duty, Commitment, Dedication, Discipline and Moral Values so that they become able leaders and useful citizens. The NCC provides exposure to the cadets in a wide range of activities., with a distinct emphasis on Social Services, Discipline and Adventure Training. The NCC is open to all regular students of schools and colleges on a voluntary basis. The students have no liability for active military service.

    Upholding the aims of the National Cadet Corps i.e., to develop character, commandership, discipline leadership, secular outlook, and spirit of adventure and the ideals of selfless service amongst the youth of the country. Acharya NCC devotedly trains the Cadets to imbibe and be a responsible citizen of the country. Acharya has NCC Army Wing open both for male and female students which is under No. 5 Company of 9 Karnataka Battalion NCC. The NCC unit at Acharya was established in the year 2012. The activities and training of NCC at Acharya guided by its core value “Unity, Discipline, Patriotism, Integrity, Selfless Service”. The Company successfully produces go-getters who actively participates at the National level camps like Republic Day Camp, Thal Sainik Camp, and various national level and directorate level camps. The Company provides an environment conducive to motivate cadets to join the armed forces and holds a record of producing cadets, on a regular basis, who join the Indian Armed Forces.

    We the cadets of the national cadet corps, do soloemnly pledge that we shall always uphold the unity of India. We resolve to be disciplined and responsible citizen of our nation. We shall undertake positive community service in the spirit of selflessness and concern for our fellow beings.

    NCC Cadet Ranks

    All others who joined NCC are commonly called as Cadets. In Senior Division NCC who performed well in the Camps he is conferred by the following ranks.

    The NCC is a responsive, learning and continuously evolving organization. Its activity is guided by certain Core Values that we endeavour to instill among all ranks of the NCC. These include the following:

    • A sense of patriotic commitment to encourage cadets to contribute to national development.
    • Respect for diversities in religion, language, culture, ethnicity, life style and habitat to instill a sense of National unity and social cohesion.
    • Abiding commitment to learn and adhere to the norms and values enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
    • Understanding the value of a just and impartial exercise of authority.
    • Ability to participate in community development and other social programme.
    • A healthy life style free of substance abuse and other unhealthy practices.
    • Sensitivity to the needs of poor and socially disadvantaged fellow citizens.
    • Inculcating habits of restraint and self-awareness.
    • Understanding the values of honesty, truthfulness, self-sacrifice, perseverance and hard work.
    • Respect for knowledge, wisdom and the power of ideas.

    Training Programme: The college offers training under the Army Wing of the National Cadet Corps. Parades and theory classes are held during the afternoon session on Saturdays between 01:00 PM to 06:00 PM. The total number of parades in a year is twenty-one in number and will be held in the college campus.

    The regular parades include training in drill, map reading, weapon training, obstacle training and Military subjects (theory classes) etc. In addition to the regular parade Cadets will get training for firing, social service and adventure. The adventure training/activities includes parasailing, horse riding, rock climbing, firing, mountaineering, cycle expedition, motorcycle expedition, trekking etc.

    Basic Training

    Drill: Cadets must be made to understand the aim and purpose of teaching drill, so that they are suitably motivated and do not take it as "fatigue". Emphasis will be laid on correct bearing, marching, saluting and arms drill. Inter-squad competitions may be organized to create interest.

    Weapon Training: Cadets generally take keen interest in weapon training and firing. Units must liaise with nearby Service and Para-Military Units to ensure that all cadets get an opportunity to fire their authorized administration. Use of firing simulators may be made to optimize training efforts where possible.

    Adventure Training: Adventure activities have been incorporated in NCC training with the aim of inculcating and strengthening leadership traits amongst the cadets. These activities in NCC can be broadly divided into the following.

    • Land based Mountaineering, Rock Climbing, Trekking.
    • Water based – Sailing Expedition, White Water Rafting, Scuba Diving, River Crossing.
    • Air based - Parasailing.
    Eligibility: I PUC and I Degree students

    Certificates

    • After two years of training – ‘B’ Certificate
    • After three years of training – ‘C’ Certificate

    Use of B & C: The Cadets are exempted from CDS examination conducted by UPSC and get a direct entry into SSB. The Cadets should have an 'A' or 'B' grade in 'C' certificate examination. Also, preference is given to B & C certificate holders in Defense Services, Police services, Paramilitary forces, Fire forces, BSF, Territorial Army, Industrial Security Forces, Public Sectors, and all uniform services. 60 Engineering Seats, 16 Medical Seats, 6-7% of Post Graduation seats are reserved for NCC cadets in most of the Indian Universities. A reservation for NCC cadets in Engineering Seats, Medical Seats and Post Graduation seats are available in most of the Indian Universities.

    NCC Song

    An Official Song of the NCC titled "Kadam Mila Ke Chal" was adopted in 1963. This was, however, changed to the current NCC Song titled "Ham Sabh Bhartiya Hain" in Oct 1982. "Ham Sabh Bhartiya Hain" - NCC song is written by Sudarshan Fakir.

    NCC Camps

    Camp training is an essential part of the NCC training program that aims to instill regimented life, camaraderie, leadership qualities, self-confidence, and self-reliance in cadets. The camps provide a practical application of the knowledge gained during institutional training, exposing cadets to camp life excitement. The NCC organizes over 1450 camps annually, with each camp designed for 400 to 600 cadets and staffed by 3 or 4 officers and 15-20 ANOs (Associate NCC Officers) / PI Staff (Permanent Instructors) / WTLOs (Whole Time Lady Officers) / GCIs (Girl Cadet Instructors). Junior Division/Junior Wing cadets must attend at least one camp, while Senior Division/Senior Wing cadets are required to attend at least two camps during their enrollment. Each year, more than 8 lakh cadets attend these camps.

    The NCC Camps are usually conducted at various locations and generally starts with an inauguration ceremony. The training at NCC Camps includes drill practice, weapon handling, theory lessons, shooting, obstacle courses, and cultural practices. Competitions, drills and marathons are organized as part of a few NCC Camps. Every night, cultural activities are conducted to showcase the NCC cadets' talents

    Types of NCC Camps

    • 1. Annual Training Camps (ATC) or Combined Annual Training Camps (CATC) - The Annual Training Camps or NCC ATCs are conducted by the NCC Directorates in their respective states.
    • 2. Centrally Organized Camps - The Central Organized Camps, which are planned by Headquarter DGNCC in consultation with State NCC Directorates, are held throughout India. NCC Cadets who are selected based on the vacancies allotted to each Directorate participate in these camps.

    About ANOs

    Capt. Subramanyam B, ANO of 5/9 Coy NCC, has been an instrumental pillar of Acharya Institute of Graduate Studies since 2012. Commissioned as a Lieutenant from NCC OTA Kamptee, NAGPUR, 2013, he was promoted to the rank of Captain in 2022. With over 30 years of experience in the teaching field of commerce, Capt. Subramanyam has significantly contributed to both NCC and academic spheres, sharing his wealth of knowledge with students while serving with dedication in the NCC.

    Lt. Sowmya M. A., ANO of 5/9 Coy NCC, has been a dedicated and inspiring leader at Acharya Institute of Graduate Studies. Commissioned as a Lieutenant from the Officer Training Academy (OTA) in Gwalior in 2015, she has contributed significantly to NCC activities. Her role as the SW Contingent Officer at the 2017 Republic Day Parade in Delhi marked a key achievement, and she has received multiple accolades, including DDG Commendation (2018), CM Commendation (2021), and DG Commendation (2022). Alongside her NCC service, Lt. Sowmya brings 12 years of teaching experience as an English faculty member, making a lasting impact both in the classroom and in the NCC. Achievements. Presently she is perusing her doctoral degree in the area of Military Narratives.

    • Capt. Sachin P. Nair exemplifies dedication and achievement as an alumnus. His recent shortlist for the SSB selection in 2018 highlights his hard work and commitment to serving is nation. Currently, he serves as a Captain in the Indian Army.
    • Ex CJUO Jayanth Gowda Recommended at 34 SSB Allahabad in 2025. He was an exceptional cadet who represented Acharya NCC at the PM Rally during RDC camp 2020, showcasing dedication and leadership.
    • Ex- Sgt Adarsh Tiwari Recommended at 33 SSB Bhopal in 2025, Adarsh Tiwari is an exemplary alumnus of Acharya NCC (Batch 2019-2022). His perseverance and determination, evident in his success on the 13th attempt with an impressive IMA Rank 78 and INA Rank 17, reflect his unwavering commitment to achieving his goals.
